IAPE On The Road: Next Stop, Dallas

A Note From Steve

The cross-country road-show is continuing with a series of membership meetings, sharing a little bit of lunch, answering a lot of questions and laying the groundwork for the contract bargaining talks with Dow Jones later this year.

In addition to answering a lot of questions over pizza, I made the rounds of the offices in each of the stops, touching base with folks from Newswires, MarketWatch, Factiva and the Journal. Sales, reporters and techs all have the same concerns: jobs, benefits and money. In short, the very issues which we'll have to address in the next round of contract bargaining.

We're working now to build on the mobilization efforts we all made during the last round of contract talks. Your union needs you to be involved. In fact, you need you to be involved.

Three years ago we learned, first hand, that the contract we get depends more on what we do outside the bargaining room than what we do inside that room.

To that end, over the past three weeks more than 30 of your colleagues in Boston, Chicago, Washington and Atlanta have stepped forward to volunteer as IAPE Stewards, signing-up to serve in the communications network which will be critical in the next round of bargaining.

I'll be in Dallas June 15th and 16th with membership meetings in the next couple of weeks in South Brunswick and New York. Visits to San Francisco and Los Angeles are set for July.

There's a lot of work to be done — and we'll talk about it all when we sit down together over the next few weeks.

As always, let me know what you think.

Steve Yount
