We've received the ruling of the arbitrator who heard IAPE's Harborside wage hike grievance against Dow Jones. And it's a disappointment: Our grievance was rejected.
The issue was the retroactive wage increase that IAPE-represented Harborside employees received under the terms of the latest contract. we had argued that the company was wrong when it paid IAPE-represented employees just a retroactive 1% increase (deducting a February 2007 2% increase from the contract mandated 3% increase.)
It was IAPE's position that Harborside employees were entitled to the 3% provided by the contract in addition to the 2% they received before joining the union. The arbitrator disagreed.
I'm sorry we didn't win this one — but I'm glad we fought the fight.
